Mission statement
| Information has to enter the public spaces: The vision is to integrate localized information in the urban environment. The great challenge is to devise suitable technology for this radically novel attempt to localize information spaces. This goes in either direction: |
| ====>>>> | From REAL to VIRTUAL: City Wiki open to all City Users, i.e., the inhabitants of the local quarter |
| <<<<==== | From VIRTUAL to REAL: City wiki content displayed interactively in the public space - without commercials !? |
The three stages of E-participation
- Future Prototype: RFID-Technology as participation backbone
- Future Preview: Mobile phone based urban information infrastructure for information nomads
- Future Standard: (Display + Camera) combination at every bus stop
- Critical question: Will the "Ankünder" permit to use the bus stop displays on an open source basis, "without commercials"
Brainstorming: Technical Aspects of the "Urban Intervention"
- Projection technology instead of touching screens (hygiene issues), camera based input
- Problem: Find the right spot for projection: Dark, allowed, useful, crowded.
- Example: Bus stop, tramway, tunnels.
- Problem: Vandalism proof, people keep stealing the stupidest things!
- Inspect Annenstrasse for suitable places
- The running light spot on the ground: Imagine light spots on the pavewalk would follow individual people: The spot behind me and the one before me are on!
- Example exists in Vienna somewhere (please locate...)
- RFID tags could be put on Multiverse Flyers saying "You are ID32323. Go to the internet and change this name". - Then this name is displayed on any display (shopping window, projection etc.) near this person while walking. Also: Upload image. Great coolness factor
-
- City user database. Scenario: Information nomad arriving in Graz. His mobile phone transmits his personal business card to the city information system. The system "localizes" him by giving all information to him that might be relevant
- People from the same business
- Possible customers
- Interesting places, according to his profile (Modellbahnbörse)
- Perspective: Keep updated with technology (Bimber...) even if it is not YET fully operational/applicable in public spaces. Reason: Project proposal has to peek into the future.
- Integrate TU Graz as technology provider .... (phase III, Hi Andrea!)
- Example: Collaborate with mobile phone companies instead of RFID.
- Technology: Ultra-wide-angle projectors make back-projection in "impossible" situations available. Remark: Back-projection is precondition for ALL kinds of interesting interaction tasks!
- Mixed Reality Interfaces a la Kommerz.at in "controlled environments" (see Kubel in Google...)
- Time Machine. Overlay in the real place in the Annenstrasse, looking along the road, with a time slider (wheel). The past...present...future.
- Urban Wiki: People living in the quarter should have the right to influence what is visible in the quarter.
